The Italian Corner began in 2014 when Nicola moved from Italy to Durban, carrying with him a deep love for authentic gelato. Working together with his father, Fabrizio—who still lives in Italy—they transformed a family dream into a thriving gelato brand rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and community.

Both Nicola and Fabrizio trained at the prestigious Fabbri Academy in Bologna, learning the art and science of true gelato-making. They brought this expertise to Durban, carefully adapting the original recipe to suit South Africa’s warm and humid climate. By rebalancing sugar levels and refining textures, they created a gelato that stays perfectly smooth, stable, and flavourful year-round.

Today, The Italian Corner has grown into a large, welcoming family—with a passionate team. Together, we serve locals, holidaymakers, and families with one goal: to spread joy, one scoop at a time.
